Letter: Two Alaska women

The juxtaposition of two stories in the ADN April 8 struck me. They were stories of two Alaska women. Both had pilot husbands, raised families and found their way into politics. However, the similarities fade there.

One of these women was a civic activist, respected by those of all parties for her level-headed ability to get things done. She spent 12 years as a state senator and ran for governor twice. But, she did not quit when she lost those races. She continued serving Alaska right up to her passing. One of these women did not seek out the spotlight, though it shone brightly on her because of her selfless dedication to the state of Alaska.

Arliss Sturgulewski was a public servant in the very best sense of the title. The other person is not.
