Letter: We’re supporting Dan Volland for Anchorage Assembly

As state and local elected officials representing neighborhoods from East Anchorage to Westchester Lagoon to Spenard, we are writing to express our enthusiastic support for Dan Volland for the new North Anchorage Assembly seat. Dr. Volland is a small-business owner in Anchorage who is very involved in community groups including Rotary, the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, Anchorage Downtown Partnership, and the South Addition Community Council. In addition to extensive involvement in Anchorage, Dr. Volland has traveled to more than 30 rural communities to provide medical care throughout our state. He’s already putting in time and energy to make our community a better place.

We share Dr. Volland’s progressive agenda and commitment to good, living-wage jobs, women’s rights and access to reproductive health care, and a stronger behavioral health and crisis response system that strengthens public safety. Dr. Volland is a strong supporter of our first responders, and as a member of a union family understands how important it is to restore defined benefit pensions so we retain our police and firefighters to keep Anchorage safe.

Many of us have worked with Dr. Volland and local community councils on improving our pedestrian and bike infrastructure so our streets are safer and more people want to spend time downtown, strengthening local businesses.

Finally, we applaud Dr. Volland’s forward-looking vision for making Anchorage a great place to live, work, and raise a family. This optimistic and innovative approach will serve Anchorage well. We’re going through an unusual number of elections right now, but local government is critically important for jobs, public safety and quality of life in Anchorage.

Please remember to vote by mail in the special North Anchorage Assembly election. You will be receiving a ballot in the mail soon if you haven’t already, and we urge you to consider voting for Dan Volland.
