Letter: Backing Lisa Murkowski

I support Sen. Lisa Murkowski for multiple reasons. First is her positive can-do attitude. Rather than attacking others, she spends her time focused on getting things done. Because of her seniority, she gets a lot done. She is a lifetime Alaskan, as comfortable at fish camp as she is at the U.S. Senate. She’s not power hungry but because of her seniority and personality, she uses her power to get big things done for Alaskans in Washington, D.C.

Second, she always puts Alaska first. She’s a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and has a proven track record of accomplishing a lot for Alaska. We have received $2 billion in federal funds so far because she was the lead author and shepherd on the bipartisan infrastructure bill. When the CDC was preventing cruise ships from sailing to Alaska, Sen. Murkowski cut through the federal red tape to save the 2021 cruise tourism season. She has helped Alaska’s homeless children and has used federal funding to help our state in so many ways throughout the state.

I am an independent voter and often land on the Democratic side. But Sen. Murkowski still has my vote because of her positivity, her seniority, and her proven ability to help the people of Alaska. I don’t agree with every stance she’s taken but she has earned my admiration and respect. Her emphasis is always on helping Alaska and she’s articulate about where she stands.
