Letters to the Editor

Letter: Library lovers

Do I know my library card ID number? No, but I keep it on a sticky note on my computer because I use our library. However, some of my grandchildren know their library card IDs. Early favorite authors: Sandra Boynton, Eric Carle, Mo Willams, Eileen Christelow, Ann Martin, Kate DiCamillo, Gary Paulsen, on and on. Our grandchildren borrowed books before they could see over the counter to check them out.

We have participated in children’s programs since 2011, before they could walk. The baby goats on the lawn were adored! Frequently, due to the programs’ popularity, we found no available parking. We attended countless story times.

Recently, unwise decisions to cut back programs and staff, despite approval for funding, have put our library in a difficult position. The Z.J. Loussac Library meets the needs of all ages, from preschoolers to senior citizens. Those, whether volunteers or paid, act with kindness and energy, while sharing their wealth of knowledge. The library needs the monetary support of the city’s governing powers. Loussac is an amazing resource for Alaska’s public!
