Letter: Changing politics

Years ago, so many told me we needed to change politics as usual. We needed someone who’s not a politician. So they voted in a guy that would change the course of our country. This guy had multiple bankruptcies, sexual misconduct allegations against him, refused to make his taxes public, total disrespect for women, and so many other flaws.

He filled his Cabinet with corrupt individuals, and denied the seriousness of a pandemic that spiraled our country into a health crisis, with over a million deaths and counting. The pandemic shut down our country and put us in an economic crisis. He was twice impeached, but supported by the Senate. He was voted out after one term, ignited a coup that failed and still believes he never lost the election.

The damage he has done will take years to repair, if at all possible. Today, our country is divided based on lies. Our country is riddled with white supremacy, delusional QAnon adherents, a war on women and so many more atrocities. So I ask those of you that wanted to change “politics as usual,” are you happy now?

Of course, now Donald Trump’s supporters want to blame it all on the new administration trying to fix the big mess they voted for — but Joe Biden is blocked by the threat of a Senate filibuster on every effort.Does our country heal and move on, or do we stay sick?
