The rationale used by some politicians, Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority and others to validate their pipe-dream, environmentally destructive and financially unsupported megaprojects is that they will create jobs. The question is, for who?
Several articles and commentaries printed in the ADN have pointed out extreme worker shortages across numerous industries. There is no limit of real-life examples — think Princess Lodge, for one.
So, in my view, the promoters of these projects need a new tagline; this one doesn’t fly.
