Letter: Use the Golden Lion

As I asked on April 28 of this year, why isn’t the Municipality of Anchorage using the Golden Lion hotel to house at least 100 of the houseless people now living at Centennial Campground and elsewhere? We paid $9 million for it in December 2020, and it still sits empty.

The Assembly is working on a plan to spend another $12.6 million to buy a hotel to convert to permanent supportive housing. Why? How do they know that the administration won’t sit on that purchase, too, unless it is in an area where there is less pushback from some influential neighbors?

As a longtime resident and property owner, I object to both the deplorable way our houseless are being treated and the lack of fiscal responsibility in using the resources the municipality owns.
