Letters to the Editor

Letter: Help wounded combat veterans

I congratulate Congresswoman Mary Peltola for achieving her newly elected position in our nation’s capital.

The last federal-level person to effectively assist a wide range of Alaska’s combat-wounded veterans in the nation’s capital was Sen. Mark Begich. Sen. Begich always responded positively to every call concerning veteran issues and he consistently provided effective and meaningful assistance. That level of political skill and honest concern has never been achieved by Alaska’s current U.S. senators.

Starting in the first half of 2020, neither of Alaska’s senators has personally replied in any manner to an issue involving the Purple Heart Foundation, a splinter group — half of whom never served in any military capacity — that has and continues to employ stolen valor tactics against actual Purple Heart recipients. Congress could stop that activity, but our two current senators have sat on the issue for over two years and done nothing to fix the problem.

If Congresswoman Peltola does anything to support combat wounded veterans it will be considerably more effort than the current egotistical, overrated U.S. senators have put forth.
