Anchorage residents should be sickened not only that racists live among us, but also because one openly serves on the Assembly.
Jamie Allard’s appalling “I understand both perspectives” defense of David Lazer’s bigoted rant at a recent public meeting is just as much a dog whistle to white nationalists as Donald Trump’s claim that there were “very fine people on both sides” of a white supremacist rally in 2017.
Racism is not “understandable.” Nor should it be tolerated. Allard’s vile defense of it is a disgrace that makes her unfit for public office.
