Letter: Don’t vote for Murkowski

Conservative and independent Alaskans must vote for a candidate other than the incumbent senator, Lisa Murkowski. Although the incumbent claims to represent Alaska voters, recent outreach went unanswered. Her unavailability, in contrast to Sen. Dan Sullivan, is significant. She did not respond to her own web page, answer her telephone or respond to email when trying to contact her about vital votes that impacted me and other Alaskans. Sen. Sullivan’s office not only responded to my questions and issues, but the staff accomplished labor related to the correspondence. Sen. Sullivan’s office even, unexpectedly, followed up on the issues. Sen. Murkowski’s claims to, “represent Alaskans,” while ignoring heart-felt correspondence of constituents.

Only a robotic “Thank you for contacting me” automated response was received. Murkowski’s voting record ill reflects the conservative Alaska majority and her availability exacerbates a separation between Alaskans and their “Republican” representative. A few contrary votes in recent past include the Murkowski’s vote of “present” to confirm Brett Kavanaugh. She voted for a gun control bill that was 80 pages long only 72 hours after it was revealed to the Senate. She voted to overturn ID laws as well as a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill. Murkowski also voted to impeach Donald Trump. Finally, she voted to confirm Vanita Gupta and Alejandro Mayorkas. These two characters have advocated for defunding the police and allowed millions of illegal immigrants across our southern border. These votes are not representative of the conservative values and needs of the Alaskans she was elected to represent.

It is important to Alaskans that our oil, natural gas, socially conservative values and love of the country be embodied in the representative democracy. The elected official must speak for the majority in most cases, and the above examples demonstrate a clear need to change representation. It is time to restore our Alaska conservative participation in federal legislation. We need a new representative that promotes and votes for responsible oil and gas harvesting, protects Alaska’s environment for Alaskans (not an international parkland or international fishery), supports and defends The U.S. Constitution and all amendments. We need a representative the does more than claim conservatism for reelection. For these reasons, Kelly Tshibaka is the best choice on our ballots.
