Letters to the Editor

Letter: A bad name

I agree with Eric and Mary Marchegiani that changing the name of AlaskaUSA credit union is ridiculous. I too have been a longtime member, having had my U.S. Army Alaska credit union account merged with AlaskaUSA in the early 1970s.

Worldwide recognition is important, but changing to “Global” is a step backward. It can’t be cheap to change all those signs, forms, etc., and the money would be better spent giving members a better rate on savings. AlaskaUSA’s current certificate of deposit rate on $2,500 for 24 months is 1.5% annual percentage yield, less than most other credit unions in Alaska. I recently invested at Pentagon FCU for 24 months at 4.35% annual percentage yield.
