We are told that they cannot find enough heavy equipment drivers to provide snow clearing services to Anchorage.
This makes me wonder: Where are all the Alaskans the proponents of extending roads into remote areas claim will be employed during construction? Perhaps they make enough money already that they can choose to take the winter off, but I doubt it.
However, if it is true, then there will be a year-round shortage of operators that will be met only by new faces.
