Letter: Amplify Native voices on health

I would like to thank you for publishing the AP article “Post-Roe, Native Americans face more hurdles to abortion.” As a physician who provides comprehensive reproductive health care, I often see how the needs of Alaska Native people are under-represented. The article included community voices from both sides of the abortion debate and recognized the important historical and current trauma imposed on Native communities across the country.

I see this article also as a call out for our media outlets to amplify the voices of Alaska Native communities here, adding to the discourse from tribes in the Lower 48. We are always seeking to heal the wounds caused by decades of efforts to control Native bodies.
