Letters to the Editor

Letter: Start school later

My name is Violet Wood. I am a 13-year-old seventh grader from STrEaM Academy.

I am writing to you about a problem I’m worried about. I’m worried about school starting too early.

Studies have shown that students who are tired in the morning often do worse in school. Being tired at school can cause a student to not work as hard and not pay attention as well as they would if they weren’t tired. I enjoy going to school to see friends, but the main thing that makes me not want to go is that I have to get up super early.

I know school is important, but I also know that a bunch of other students do not like getting up early in the morning. School is about learning and getting a good education, but it’s hard to focus on learning if you’re really tired.

If school started an hour later, then it could end an hour later, so it would still be the same amount of time it usually is. If school started later, students could get more sleep and not be as tired in the morning, so it could improve how students learn. Thank you for your consideration.
