Letter: Supporting Rivera

We as involved members of the Anchorage community are writing to support Felix Rivera for his final term on the Assembly. Now more than ever, we need leaders like Felix who are experienced, listen to all community voices, and are not afraid to do the hard work that this city desperately needs.

As the Chair of the Housing and Homelessness Committee, Felix has advocated hard for new housing dollars, and as a result has brought more than 300 new units of housing online. He values community input and bringing up new solutions for our most pressing issues, which is why he brought forth the Clean Slate strategy to have a real conversation around low-barrier shelter in our city.

On the other hand, the mayor is using his bully pulpit to help Felix’s opponent, who has no leadership experience, presents no ideas and would be unprepared to represent Midtown. He is using fear and to divide our community — something Anchorage does not need.

Anchorage cannot afford to have more extremists who will rubber-stamp the mayor’s agenda. Felix has had the support of Midtown since 2017, fought off a baseless recall in 2020, and deserves our support again.
