Letter: Advice for good Samaritans

This letter is a request to those good Samaritans who want to help someone struggling to get through a heavy door. I have been a cane user and now I use a walker. Both conditions mean that my balance is bad.

I am thankful if someone wants to help, however please voice an offer (just a second or two) before you apply “help,” because I may have already put energy into pulling or pushing and you risk throwing me off balance. You may have to help prevent a fall.

Please, continue to be kind. It is most appreciated — but give a little warning first.
