Letter: ‘Jersey Boys’ cancelation

What a night it was going to be. The senior residents living in the Palmer Pioneer Home were excited about the big trip scheduled for April 24 to the Performing Arts Center in Anchorage. Free tickets to the “Jersey Boys” production would be provided for the residents of the home. Transportation would also be provided by the home. Many of the home’s wheelchair residents had not been taken out of the home in months. This would be a trip long remembered.

How sad it was when, one hour before departure, we learned the show had been canceled for technical reasons. Fortunately, the residents in wheelchairs had not been loaded on the buses. Doing the locking of wheelchairs on the bus took time and was quite a job for our activity driver.

There is limited entertainment at the home, so this big production’s cancellation was a big disappointment. But this happens on occasion and was accepted with few tears.

We appreciate free volunteer entertainment for our residents, who in many cases are unable to leave the home, so in-home entertainment is greatly appreciated. Reservations for scheduling your talent can be made to our activities director, Celia Conrad, at 907-761-6530.
