Letter: On homelessness in Anchorage

I was appalled when I read Laura Kimmel’s letter on “Basic services” (ADN, Aug. 10) — or rather, the lack of basic services for the homeless in Anchorage.

We seem to go around in circles on how to deal with the homeless problem. Maybe we should try this: Do a study to find out which cities in America — or anywhere else — do not have a homeless problem? Then find out how they solved the problem, and if their solution is compassionate, do it here.

These are human beings and they deserve our compassion — and basic services.

Meanwhile, I would like to know: Are there any charitable organizations here that are helping these people that I can donate to?
