Letter: Standing with Chris Tuck

As a longtime resident of Anchorage, I am alarmed by the behavior of supporters of Anchorage mayoral candidate Suzanne LaFrance.

They are aggressively intimidating voters who have publicly stated their support for Chris Tuck — by phone, email and on social media.

The supposed champion of women’s empowerment stands by while her supporters intimidate other women and spend all their time tearing everyone down except for Dave Bronson.

To the aggrieved group in Anchorage who think they can force women like me into supporting LaFrance, you’re wasting your time. This city is facing serious issues and voter intimidation shouldn’t be one of them. If she isn’t a strong enough candidate to win without hostility and intimidation, perhaps she should rethink why she’s running. Furthermore, if she doesn’t have the integrity to call for civility at a time when we desperately need it, she is not fit to lead our community.

Declaring first does not make your candidacy a fait accompli. In a democracy, the choice is made at the polls. Voters deserve a diversity of viewpoints, opinions and perspectives. It brings vitality to the mayoral race.

I’ll be voting for Chris Tuck because he is committed to defeating Dave Bronson, not playing schoolyard games. And he’ll do so by uniting our community rather than dividing it.
