Letter: Maneuvering for mayor

Leave it to Chris Tuck to posit “They can call me pro-life, I have no problem with that. But they can’t call me anti-abortion.” Just stop and consider that one for a second.

Here’s the thing: Abortion politics should probably not be the driver in picking a mayor for the once-fair city of Anchorage. Especially so after the threeyear train wreck that has been Dave Bronson. City government, in particular this city’s government, needs to be about basic services completed without drama, to a high standard and with real value for taxpayers.

How about this? Let’s give former Assembly chair and independent candidate Suzanne LaFrance a try. Her understanding of the inner workings of city government could give her the best chance to deliver on those basic services Anchorage really needs.

And not to focus too much on gender politics, but after George Weurch, Mark Begich, Dan Sullivan (and Larry Baker), Ethan Berkowitz and Dave Bronson (and Larry Baker again), do we really need another politician using the mayor’s office in Anchorage as a primer for higher office and additional ego stroke?
