Letter: The cost of fossil fuels

While I agree with most of what Robert Seitz wrote about energy sources and power generation, there is a major problem with continuing to expand cheap fossil fuels. As long as they are available at low cost, there is no motivation to invest in replacing them. We will literally burn through those options first, a systemic behavior also illustrated by how we manage the state budget.

High taxes on fossil fuels that are then invested in the development of renewables would be one way to go — but the political fight to do so would be ugly. Sadly, I’m not optimistic.
