Letter: War in Israel

In church on Sunday, we prayed for the peace of Jerusalem and safety and security in Israel and Gaza. Hamas’ actions have been vicious. Unjustifiable. Brutal. Nihilistic. Stupid.

I expect that these are frightful days for our Jewish neighbors and their families. To the extent that we gentiles can be fully awake to what anguish, fear or threat Jews are experiencing now, we will endeavor to give support to our Jewish community.

To the Jewish community: A vast company of your Anchorage neighbors stands by you. We grieve your hurt. We share your alarm. And we regret our own derelictions as your friends.
