On Thursday, the day after his visit to Israel, President Joe Biden spoke in a way that should resonate within our country and around the world. He said, “America is a beacon for the world” and denounced the incidents of xenophobic hate that have been on the increase in the United States. His rare Oval Office speech wascarriedlive. Recurringly,indifferent ways, Biden’s speech emphasized the need for kindness and civility — by focusing on the need to protect civilians on both sides of the war between Israel and Hamas, not Palestine; by calling for a two-state solution; but especially by denouncing the growth of racist hate within our own country.
He said, “to all you hurting, I want you to know I see you … you belong … you’re all Americans … we are the United States of America!”
