Letter: Expand ranked choice voting

Based on Alaska’s successful use of open primaries and ranked choice voting, the House of Representatives should adopt it in their process of electing a speaker of the House. Start with an open primary with any House member eligible to run. A primary vote would narrow the pool to four candidates for a ranked choice election one week later — very efficient and effective.

It is also appealing to drop the electoral college for the 2024 presidential election and go with open primary and ranked choice voting instead. This could avoid having an election between two unpopular choices.
