Letter: Symphony is a hit

Music director Elizabeth Schulze and the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra knocked it out of the park again with Saturday’s performance, titled “American Perspective.”

Schulze, guest pianist Karen Walwyn and the many talented players of the ASO demonstrated that we don’t have to depend on the classical works of European masters for symphonic works rich in dynamic range, engaging melodies, contemplative chord structures, and the powerful glory of the full orchestra.

Saturday’s sampling of works from sometimesoverlooked African American composers, in addition to the well-known “Appalachian Spring” from Aaron Copland, provided for a joyous evening. It’s better live! To Schulze: Keep it coming; we look forward to the next one!
