Letter: Plowing complaints

Before it snows again, remember: In the weal and the woe, one can be sure if you live in Alaska there will be snow.

Yes, snow removal has been worse at times as the years have gone by; it’s just that the memories have faded. It does not matter who was mayor – if one’s neighborhood was not the first to be plowed, then that mayor was at fault.

There is a map available on the municipal website showing which roads are the responsibility of the state and which are the city’s roads.

Look at the map, and it is clear if the state was remiss in its monies and responsibilities, it still would have done no good to plow the neighborhoods first, as then no one would have been able to get anywhere except within their own little neighborhood, as the main arteries would have been impassable.

With all the angst and complaints about snow removal, it was thought we were amid a true disaster; I hope we never will be. If you are not staying in a tent, if you dug out and survived, it is not all that bad. Not all businesses suffered; some sold out of snow blowers and shovels.

Amazing how people managed to get out to get those supplies and go shopping, perhaps with a good story to tell about their adventure. Everyone in Anchorage can be sure it will snow again. Alaskans are supposed to be tough, but there sure are a lot of complainers and whiners.
