Letters to the Editor

Letter: Bronson support baffles

A letter to the editor on Nov. 30 regarding snow removal in Anchorage caught my attention. Burt Bomhoff has taken the position that Mayor Dave Bronson should be lauded for his decision to cut back on snow-plowing resources. Bomhoff referred to an adage, “Don’t build the church for Easter Sunday.” His point being the city should maintain just enough staff and equipment to handle normal snowfall.

Bomhoff maintained the savings are worth the inconvenience of not being able to drive, walk, receive mail, get to work, shop for groceries, or attend school. It’s an interesting “Russian roulette” type of philosophy, considering that we are talking about public safety. Perhaps an adage Bomhoff should consider is “Potholes aren’t political.” People will unite across party lines when the basic services they pay taxes for aren’t delivered.

Bomhoff went on to extol the benefits of reelecting Bronson because “we don’t need political leaders who distort facts to further their agenda or those who are simply too ignorant to understand effective government.” I’d say that statement is an exact description of Bronson.
