Letter: Guardianship blame

The recent commentary analyzing the failure of the Office of Public Advocacy to not just meet its statutory purpose but also duties under court appointments was shocking and obviously needed. Unfortunately, calling out the head of the office is appropriate but doesn’t provide a solution.

Clearly, a much larger budget is needed.

Perhaps the Mental Health Trust should be involved for those requiring protection due to mental impairment. It appears that the only way to obtain the financing to provide minimal protection will be a “Molly Hootch” lawsuit. A few competent conservators/ guardians appointed for persons harmed by this debacle need to seek counsel to explore this, since neither the governor nor the legislative branch can be counted on to do anything effective.
