Letter: Not good for Alaska

As a firm believer in the truth, I realize that sometimes my views do not line up with many local, state, and federal politicians. In response to Nick Begich’s letter concerning being “honest” about Donald Trump, I believe there needs to be a correction. I realize that Begich is not currently a politician, but he is running to become the next congressperson from Alaska. His stance on the former president is that he is good for Alaska because of his position on oil development.

What’s not good for Alaska is a president who instigates overtaking the Capitol instead of a peaceful transition of power. A president who engages in social media attacks against his opponents gives further credence to others who follow his lead. A president who encourages violent attacks. A president whose stated plan for his new government would be to empower police to shootshoplifters, terminate the Department of Education, reclassify masses of people who work as civil servants (making it easy to fire them at will), and bring back large mental institutions.

Those are just a few “truths” about who Donald Trump is. Begich can be singularly focused on oil development, as a way for the rich to get richer, but policies that divide, destroy, institutionalize, and kill are not “good” for anyone.
