Letter: Reelect Bronson

I noted with interest the ADN’s article on mayoral vetoes. Assembly member Anna Brawley was quoted as saying, “We vetoed the mayor’s reductions because it only saved $20 per $100,000 assessed valuation.” The truth is there are no $100,000 homes in Anchorage. The savings likely would have been four to five times that amount for most taxpayers.

Maybe it’s not a lot for Brawley’s rich neighbors, but that is a significant amount to the tenant who will see their rent go up to pay the additional tax bill and is living paycheck to paycheck, or the widow on a fixed income who might lose her home because of the higher taxes.

I hope next April, the taxpayers will thank Mayor Dave Bronson by reelecting him for trying to reduce taxes rather than raise them, like the Assembly just did to all of us.
