Letter: Continue to fund Ukraine's defense

All Republican senators, including Sens. Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski, have opposed critical funding for Ukraine until Democrats accede to a long list of Republican demands on unrelated immigration matters — including passage of draft bills that have not been adequately vetted, have not been subject to any hearings, and are not independently acceptable to the majority of Congress. Sullivan recently criticized Sen.Tommy Tuberville for placing holds on military promotions until Democrats acceded to Republican demands on unrelated military abortion policies.

Sullivan, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has now turned around and himself “Tubervilled” Ukraine. In February on NBC’s Meet the Press, Sullivan condemned Russia’s “brutal invasion” of Ukraine; recognized that it is “strongly in our interest to continue to support the Ukrainians;” lauded the Ukrainians’ “proven ability to fight bravely;” and criticized the Biden administration for allegedly “slow roll(ing)” military aid to Ukraine.

Now Sullivan and all other Republicans Senators are completely blocking aid to Ukraine. This is a sad day for America and an unfortunate cautionary tale to our allies. Sen. Sullivan told Jake Tapper on CNN that “the Chinese are watching very closely” what happens in Ukraine, “they are very linked.” Undoubtedly Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping are rooting for the new isolationist Republican Party.
