Letter: Short-sighted cuts

If there were any question that our governor and the Legislature are running Alaska into the ground, one only had to read that cuts in education funding may force the Anchorage School Board to eliminate a program for gifted students. In what crazy world do we fail to promote the best and brightest young people in our community?

The key resources for Alaska’s long-term future are not the fossil fuel or mining industries; those industries have a limited future. The key resources for Alaska’s long-term future are the people in this state. Their wisdom, skills, and desire for a better world will drive Alaska forward. Gutting education is one sure way to destroy that drive.
