Letter: Natural gas supply

Not too long ago, a commentary in this paper suggested that the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority could issue bonds to finance the development of Cook Inlet gas production. Since then, I’ve heard somewhat alarming stories about the finite nature of our current gas supply but not even ‘crickets’ about bond support for development. I’ve also heard that some of the smaller producers are sitting on a lot of available gas but haven’t gotten the financing to drill.

With an emergency developing, I imagine it would be no problem to sell bonds to anxious area residents to finance what looks like the quickest and cheapest solution to the problem. AIDEA might improve its success ratio with such a project and could delay road developments that are controversial and not as urgent.
