Letter: Israel cease-fire resolution

As the granddaughter of a German Jewish Holocaust survivor, and many other family members who did not survive, I fully understand the horrors of war. During World War II in Germany, my mother survived numerous bombings and was fortunate enough to have been dug out of a bombed building.

I am very grateful to my own Assembly members, Karen Bronga and George Martinez, as well as Felix Rivera, for taking a stand against the continuance of the senseless killing of tens of thousands of innocent people in Gaza and the West Bank, of whom 70% are women and children. I appreciate the sense of urgency to supply food, water and medicine to the desperate citizens of Gaza whose suffering is immense and whose plight eats our collective conscience daily. I am grateful to the people of Anchorage who voiced their anguished concern at this suffering to our Assembly.

I beg all Assembly members to not be dismissive of these concerns. These caring citizens are indeed expressing our highest sense of the value of humanity. I implore Assembly members to be open to their compassion. May we all continue to work toward an end to the profound suffering and deaths of both Palestinians and Israelis alike. May we also have the courage to be relentless in this endeavor.
