Letter: Absolutely ridiculous

Once again, the Legislature is looking for a way to be popular while not tackling Alaska’s real problems.

A constitutional amendment to guarantee a Permanent Fund dividend check is crazy. It’s irresponsible. How could it possibly be implemented? It would compete with funds for education, health, welfare, and community needs funded by the state government.

Could we please deal with the challenges of operating a complicated state? Begin by funding education. If it is vetoed by our governor, then override.

We have a statewide homeless problem, mental health needs, and a revenue-generating plan — yes, taxes. No Alaskan deserves a guaranteed gift from the state. Let’s just move on to something more meaningful.
