Letters to the Editor

Letter: Bad options

I have often felt that America’s two-party system has served us better than parliamentary systems where multiple parties need to cobble together a group of minority parties to form a government. This year, the two-party system has resulted in a most spectacular failure.

We have one candidate who most Americans feel is no longer capable of handling the world’s most important job and a second candidate who more than half of Americans feel has committed acts that should disqualify him from holding that position.

President Joe Biden has refused to take a cognitive function test, saying it is unnecessary. He should take it, if for no other reason than to reassure the Americans who are concerned about his mental ability to be president.

Former President Donald Trump refused to participate in the Republican debates. Probably a wise decision, because his only real debate skill appeared to be making up snarky names about his opponents.

His actions leading up to the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, if not illegal, were at the very least despicable. He castigated his vice president and attorney general for correctly supporting the Constitution instead of his efforts to illegally overturn the election. He has also made it very clear that many of his decisions as president will be made out of personal animus rather than the good of the country.

I cannot in good conscience vote for either one of these men.
