Letter: Failed veto override

I simply cannot understand how our combined state legislators can be so gutless and uncaring about the state of our Alaska public education system. I was certainly encouraged when they resoundingly passed SB 140 earlier in the session with such a large majority voting in favor. I thought, “Finally, they’re willing to stand up to this bully and do the right thing for once.” The governor needs to be sent the message that he is not a king. He does not get to have his way every time. All children of Alaska have the right to a good education provided by the state. That good education does not belong only to the lucky few who can get into charter schools. Here’s a novel concept: Fund all the public schools, as well as our best charter schools, and there won’t be any problem.
