Alaska congressional delegation silent on Trump immigration order

WASHINGTON — Members of Alaska's congressional delegation have not yet weighed in on President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration that has sparked nationwide protests and emergency court orders.

Alaska Dispatch News requested reaction by phone and email from staffers for Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan and Rep. Don Young on Saturday and Sunday. Staffers either did not respond or said the lawmakers would be unavailable for comment until Monday.

In December 2015, the three members of the delegation, who are all Republicans, said that they did not support Trump's original suggestion of temporarily banning all Muslims from entering the United States. Trump's executive order does not focus on religion, but bans entry for immigrants from seven Muslim-dominant nations: Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Syria, Libya and Yemen.
