Dozens of sea nettles, a jellyfish also known as chrysaora melanaster, line the shore of Resurrection Bay at Tonsina Point on September 23, 2018. Aaron Baldwin, a fisheries biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, said they were likely stranded by the tide and probably wouldn’t survive until the next cycle. “They’re really easily destroyed,” he said. “They’re pretty delicate.” Baldwin said sea nettles sting, which can cause an irritation, so people should be cautious about touching them.
