Anchorage's Michael Brain is second Alaskan to cash 3 times at this World Series of Poker

Michael Brain of Anchorage over the weekend became the second Alaskan this summer to cash in three times at the 47th annual World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Brain finished 342nd in a field of 2,452 in a No-Limit Hold 'em event that required a $1,000 entry fee, or buy-in. He won $1,501 and has racked $14,940 for his three cashes. Brain owns seven career WSOP cashes.

Wayne McGregor of Wasilla is the other Alaska player who has cashed three times this summer, totaling $30,507.

Two other Alaskans finished in the money in the No-Limit event in which Brain cashed. William Garner of Anchorage became the 33rd Alaskan to cash at the WSOP this year. He finished 182nd, good for $2,134. And Luther Miller of Anchorage cashed for the second time this summer, finishing 262nd for $1,750 and giving him a total of $6,872 for his two cashes.

Robert Halford of Palmer has cashed twice for $8,753 and Jeremy Hamey of Juneau has cashed twice for $4,543.

McGregor owns the most lucrative single-event finish by an Alaskan in this WSOP with a $26,470 cash. Next best for an Alaskan is Michael Kinney's cash of $22,686 in a single event.

The WSOP, which features 69 separate events over the course of nearly two months, has begun the Main Event, which requires a $10,000 buy-in, and last year drew 6,420 players and paid winner Joe McKeehen of Pennsylvania nearly $7.7 million.
