Dimond, Chugiak and visiting teams notch victories in Legion baseball tourney

Dimond 11, South 5

Sean Carey and Kyle Henrickson each tallied three RBIs and Dimond topped South 11-5 to improve to 2-0 in tournament action Friday in the BP Invitational at Mulcahy Stadium.

The Lynx used a five-run seventh inning to put the game away. Dimond's Jake Andresen doubled twice and provided an RBI and steal.

Josh Costello and Terren Sugita each batted in a pair of runs for South.

Chugiak 15, South 4 (5 innings)

Chugiak made the most of its seven hits and used a 10-run fourth inning to induce the mercy rule in a 15-4 tournament victory against South.

Mustangs pitcher Ian Frizelle scored three runs at the plate and threw 4 1/3 innings, striking out four Wolverines. Samuel Hall drove in three runs and scored twice for Chugiak.

South's Anthony Maldanado and Damien Mohl each provided two RBIs.

Washington 8, Service 3

Washington defeated Service 8-3 behind Kobe and Kyren Morris' two RBIs apiece to improve to 2-0 in tournament pool play.

The Bruins jumped out to a 6-0 lead, scoring three runs in the second and third innings. Taylor Hamada struck out two batters and allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings.

Cooper Bailey-Parsons led Service with a two-RBI double in the fifth inning.

Washington 12, Eagle River 3

In Washington's early game, pitcher Jesus Vela led the visiting Bruins with a complete game, striking out seven Eagle River batters in a 12-3 tournament win.

The Bruins scored in five of their six innings at the plate. Kyren Morris tallied three runs and a game-high three RBIs.

Ryan Gray led the Wolves with two runs, including a steal of home and provided a RBI double.

Ohio 11, Chugiak 1 (5 innings)

In the final Friday tournament contest, Ohio ended its game early by defeating Chugiak 11-1. Alex Gerken fueled Ohio with four strikeouts, while allowing one run on one hit.

The River Bandits produced an eight-run third inning and were led by Luke Breininger's game-high three hits and three RBIs.

Garrett Nevells provided Chugiak's only hit, reached base with a walk and eventually scored off an error and fielder's choice.
