Ruthy Hebard and the Oregon women’s basketball team will open season in Fairbanks

So far 2018 has been a very good year for Fairbanks basketball star Ruthy Hebard.

She fashioned a record-setting shooting streak, she represented Team USA at a world championship tournament and she helped the Oregon Ducks to the Elite Eight of the NCAA women's tournament.

Now, she's getting a chance to bring her college teammates home to Fairbanks for a season-opening game against UAF in November.

"We open the season on Nov. 6 up in @RuthyHebard24's hometown! Can't wait to see all her friends and family in the stands," the University of Oregon women's team announced Friday on Twitter.

No other details were released by either school, although Oregon said via Twitter that the Tuesday game will count as a regular-season game rather than an exhibition game for the Ducks.

Hebard is a 6-foot-4 forward heading into her junior season at Oregon, where she is a two-time all-Pac-12 player.

She's coming off a stellar sophomore season during which she helped the Ducks to a 33-5 record and an Elite Eight tournament appearance.

She led Oregon in rebounding (9.0 per game) and ranked second in scoring (17.6 points per game), and in February she set an NCAA record — for men and women — by hitting 33 consecutive field goals.

As a freshman, she averaged 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds.

Hebard was a three-time Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year at West Valley and has played for Team USA on a couple of occasions, including this summer when she was a member of the U.S. team at the 3-on-3 world championships.
