Seward plans Thursday parade and celebration for Olympic gold medalist Lydia Jacoby

Alaska’s gold and silver medalist swimmer is back from Tokyo, and there’s a warm welcome planned in celebration.

Lydia Jacoby, who won gold in the 100-meter breaststroke and silver in the women’s medley relay at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, will ride a float through her hometown of Seward in a parade that starts at 6 p.m. Thursday at the corner of Third Avenue and Van Buren.

After weaving through the town in the parade, Jacoby will board a Kenai Fjords tour boat at 7 p.m. and answer emailed questions via intercom. Her voice will be projected out to those standing along the water, near the culvert at Scheffler Creek Bridge.

Questions for Jacoby can be emailed to gnipp@kenaifjords.com.

Event organizers are encouraging people to wear masks during the festivities.
