Prep riflery: West, Chugiak, Bartlett collect dual-meet victories

Chugiak 4, Eagle River 3

Eagle River boasted the match-high shooters and had the higher total score, but Chugiak did just enough to take a 4-3 win in a Cook Inlet Conference riflery dual Friday at Chugiak High.

Haylee Nicholson and Ashtin Bennett both shot 287 for Eagle River, and the Wolves totaled 3,212 to edge Chugiak by 27.

But Chugiak compiled four team points by posting victories in the A and B team competitions. Eagle River finished with three points by topping the C team competition, worth two points, and compiling the best overall score, worth one point.

Dana Gay's 286 led Chugiak, which had six shooters shoot 280 or better.

Dimond's Jasmine Kobayashi fired the meet's best score but West grabbed a 5-2 CIC riflery win Friday with a performance that included two perfect scores in prone shooting at the West High range.

Claudia Wong and Luis Montilla-Batista each shot 100 in the prone stage for the Eagles. Wong helped West to the B team victory and Montilla-Batista did the same for the C team.

Kobayashi's 286 led all shooters and teammate Kevin Sargent was right behind at 285 to power Dimond's narrow A team win.

Kayleigh Shryack, Amy Allgyer and Christian Williams all posted scores of 284 to pace West.

The Cougars' A, B and C teams all broke the 1,000-point barrier.

Sharing team-high honors for Bartlett were Elise Wood and Riley Reloza, who both shot 283.
