Rally the Regions: Bristol Bay girls defend basketball crown

The champions from the first Rally the Regions Hardwood Classic basketball tournament last season aimed for repeats Friday in the tournament championships at Begich Middle School.

The Bristol Bay girls succeeded.

But in the boys title game, a new champion was crowned. Unalaska dethroned defending champ Unalakleet 73-53.

In the girls championship, the Miss Chiefs led 10-2 early, but Bristol Bay took the lead on a 9-0 run to end the quarter, spearheaded by sisters Anna Hanson and Sharon Hanson. Sharon finished with 15 points and Anna scored 14.

Riley Lyon carried home the victory for Bristol Bay with 15 of her 17 points in the second half.
