Bethel upends host South in O’Brady’s Invitational basketball tournament

Bethel surprised tournament host South 46-38 Thursday in the opening game of the O'Brady's Invitational boys basketball tournament at South High.

In other games, Ketchikan crushed Bartlett 69-48, Chugiak steamrolled Lathrop 68-34 and Wasilla whipped West Valley 67-42.

John Fredricks poured in 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Clevon Constantine added 15 points and six rebounds to propel Bethel. Marco Ghisalberti led South with 11 points.

Bartlett's Chris Lee poured in a tournament-high 31 points in the late game, but it wasn't enough to stop Ketchikan. The Kings were powered by Leroy Manogiamanu, who furnished 14 points and nine rebounds.

Chugiak took care of Lathrop by outscoring the Malemutes 15-2 in the second quarter. Tyler Trevino's 19 points and Hunter Harr's 11 points and seven rebounds sparked the Mustangs. Chateau Reed led Lathrop with 10 points.

Wasilla used big efforts from Aeron Milliron (18 points, 10 rebounds), Reilly Devine (8 points, 12 rebounds) and Levi Houck (14 points, 6 rebounds). For West Valley, Dylan Erhart's 14 points led the way.

Bartlett and Ketchikan met in the late game.
