Dimond swimmer leads the state in 5 events

Led by Dimond High swimmer Dreamer Kowatch, Anchorage athletes own Alaska's top marks in 11 out of 18 individual swimming and diving events based on meets through Oct. 18.

With just conference and state championships left on the schedule, Kowatch has set the pace for girls in five out of eight swimming events – the 100 freestyle (54.84 seconds), 100 butterfly (1:00.09), 200 free (1:59.47), 200 individual medley (2:14.47) and 500 free (5:18.18).

The other top times among girls belong to Chugiak's Izzy Powers in the 50 free (25.37), Seward's Lydia Jacoby in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.44) and Homer's Madison Story in the 100 backstroke (1:01.14).

In diving, Wasilla's Jayde Chan has a high score of 219.90 points (Savana Trueb scored 285.3 points for South High early in the season but has since moved out of state).

Among the boys, Spencer Holt of Thunder Mountain has the fastest times in three events and Caleb Law of Service is the fastest in two events.

Holt tops the 100 back (53.4), 200 free (1:45.5) and 200 IM (1:59.03), and Law tops the 50 free (21.56) and 100 free (47.75).

Other state leaders for the boys include Maximus Addington of Dimond (100 butterfly, 52.77), John Heaphy of Eagle River (100 breaststroke, 1:00.77), Noah Palmer of Hutchison (500 free, 4:58.66) and Holt Dannenberg of West (diving, 278.55 points).

Kowatch and Laws are among 18 swimmers and divers who earned spots on the Cook Inlet Conference all-star roster, announced last week.

The CIC championships run Thursday through Saturday at Bartlett High, followed by the state championships Nov. 2-3 at Bartlett.
