The top two boys teams in a sprint relay were separated by half a second Wednesday on the cross-country ski trails at Bartlett High.
Max Beiergrohslein and Michael Earnhart of Chugiak claimed the narrow victory by edging Joel Power and Alexander Maurer of Service.
The race consisted of four laps on a 2.1-kilometer loop, with teammates taking turns on each lap for a total of two laps, or 4.2 kilometers, apiece.
The Chugiak team posted a time of 20 minutes, 59.2 seconds. The Service team clocked 2:59.7.
In the girls race, Service skied to a comfortable victory over second-place West. Meredith Schwarz and Marit Flora combined for a winning time of 25:05.7, followed by West’s Sammy Legate and Quincy Donley in 25:42.0.
The fastest individual times belonged to Earnhart (10:17.0) and Donley (12:15.4).
