5-touchdown night from QB Loke Iese powers South Wolverines past Dimond

South quarterback Loke Iese threw five touchdown passes, including three in the pivotal third quarter of the Wolverines' 43-20 victory Saturday over the Dimond Lynx.

The Wolverines led 23-20 at the half on a wet, rainy night at the South High football stadium. They put the game out of Dimond’s reach with 20 points in the third quarter.

Iese threw three touchdowns to three receivers in the quarter -- a 25-yarder to Dylan Maltby, a 10-yarder to Nolan Quigley and a 3-yarder to Elijah Bowdon. That gave South a 43-20 lead that more than held up during a scoreless fourth quarter.

South (2-1) grabbed a 17-0 lead in the first quarter with a pair of TD passes from Iese to Connor Lower and a 40-yard field goal from Jeremiah Womack.

Dimond scored on its first drive of the second half and then narrowed South’s lead to 17-13 with a pick-six. Each team scored again before intermission, first South and then Dimond.

The 20 points were the most in a game this season for the Lynx, who dropped to 0-3. The Wolverines are 2-1.
