Service shooters look sharp in season-opening riflery meet

Service 7, Chugiak 0

Josey Baty shot a meet-high 293 and Matteo Yoon fired a perfect 100 from the prone position to lead the Service Cougars past the Chugiak Mustangs 7-0 in a Cook Inlet Conference riflery match Friday.

It was the first night of competition after two weeks after practice matches. Each team competed at its own shooting range.

Baty’s score, the best of the night in the CIC, included a 99 prone, a 98 kneeling and a 96 standing.

Chugiak, whose small squad of nine includes just three shooters from last season’s team, chose to focus on prone shooting rather than compete in all three positions. Hayden Johnson led the Mustangs with a 97.
